with James Alliban

We're also going to be having an extended news report from Flash on the Beach with Jo Summers, and Seb's visual sampler from the FOTB Jam session. This week's session description in the style of Alan Partridge (thanks to our resident writer)

Sebastian Partridge: “A-ha! Knowing me, Sebastian Partridge, knowing you, James Alliban, interactive artist & Augmented Reality specialist. Is that a real job, like a milkman, or a TV presenter? And I’m told you’ve won awards for skiving. Bit of a lazy so-and-so then?”

James Alliban: “No Seb, I make award-winning software for London agency Skive.”

SP: “That’s what I said James, pay attention. Now, I hear Actionscript developers are lusting after the power of your openFrameworks. Bit of a lady’s man, eh? Can we persuade you to crack open those tools and erect something for us, eh?”

JA: “Um… sure. Actionscript developers have always been creative and ambitious, and openFrameworks is an open source C++ toolkit for creative coding, like Processing but faster, that finally gives them real power. I’ll introduce openFrameworks by discussing its community, sharing resources, and showing some amazing projects. Then we’ll get heavily techie, setting up a new openFrameworks project, working with addons like ofxOpenCV, and implementing some simple OOP stuff. Finally I’ll explain how to develop openFrameworks for iPhone & iPad. It’ll be really cool, remember to…”

SP: “This is like the high pitched lamentations of an unbalanced Lincoln woman. You could talk the ears off, off, off… off a pig. A pig’s ear, that’s what I’m hearing James. Oink, oink!”

JA: “Right I’m leaving, I’ve had enough of… no, for those listening at home, my openFrameworks session is at The Skiff at 7pm on Wednesday 13th October, please come along. Not you Partridge.”

SP: “Oh I’ll be there Alliban. Are you Iraqian, like the ‘Taliban’? I used to be a sports reporter you know, in the line of danger like our ‘Brave Boys’ in…”

JA: [slams door on way out]

SP: “Yeah, you go. Go on! Before we go to the weather for Norfolk, here’s Enya’s lovely ‘Orinoco Flow’.”
